Senior Practicum - Class of 2013
Senior Practicum is designed to focus your attention on issues important to seniors. It is a Pass/Fail course, which means that you must satisfactorily complete every assignment to pass. The first quarter of Senior Practicum will deal primarily with college applications and related issues, and the "College Admissions Workbook," given to you last winter by Mr. Cox, will serve as a textbook during that time.
Long Term: Plan to turn in at least one completed college application to Mr. Cox before Thanksgiving and all others before Christmas vacation. Complete all rolling admission apps by 10/1.
First-Semester Class Meetings and Assignments (due on the dates indicated):
Thurs. 8/23 2:30 First Class Meeting in Library.
Sign up with Mrs. Herscha to meet individually with Mr. Cox
Fri. 8/24 10:45 Class Meeting in Library.
Bring "College Admissions Workbook" (CAW).
Turn in names of faculty recommenders.
Register for ACT: Sept. 10 or Oct. 22; SAT: Oct 1 or Nov 5.
Return transcript changes to Mr. Cox.
Locate online State University System (SUS) apps. and begin filling them out.
Wed. 8/29 7:00 Senior Parent Meeting in the PLH. Seniors welcome.
Fri. 8/31 10:45 Class Meeting in Pace Lecture Hall (PLH).
Read pp. 2-7 (Steps 1 & 2) in "CAW."
Submit “Preliminary Questionnaire” to Mr. Cox.
All rolling admission SUS apps. due to be submitted by Friday, Sept. 30
Work on resume, due Friday 9/9.
Fri. 9/7 10:45 Class Meeting in PLH. Read pp. 7-12 (Steps 3 and 4) in the "CAW." Submit upgraded resume to Mr. Cox.
Fri. 9/14 10:45 Class Meeting in PLH. Read p. 14 (Step 5).
Submit completed "Personal Inventory."
Fri. 9/21 10:45 Class Meeting in PLH. Read “How Colleges Select their Freshmen,” pp. 17-18.
Complete college search online. Print a copy for Mr. Cox.

Update your application essay based on a question from the application to one of your target schools or one from the Common Application (www.commonapp.org).
Submit to colleges completed SUS applications with application essays.
End of first marking period. If you are up to date with your Senior Practicum assignments, you will pass the class for the first quarter.

Complete at least one scholarship search online.
