St. Johns Middle School is dedicated to fostering in students a positive sense of self-esteem and an enthusiasm for lifelong learning.
The curriculum provides a well-rounded education through a comprehensive approach to English, mathematics, science, technology, history, physical education, foreign languages, and the fine arts. The faculty and administration consider the different learning styles, social interaction, and disciplinary concerns of Middle School students, which assure a curriculum that is developmentally responsive to the needs of the early adolescent.
Middle School students take advantage of school-wide resources through numerous offerings in art, band, bells, dance, drama, and music. Additional developmentally appropriate activities are supported by computer labs, science labs, and physical education facilities. Middle School students are eligible to compete for positions on interscholastic sports teams. A wide variety of Middle School sports opportunities promotes a very high student-athlete participation rate. Also, Middle School Student Council and various community service activities provide significant leadership opportunities for the students.
Middle School students meet in small groups with an assigned faculty advisor on Mondays to provide an avenue for any personal or academic concerns to be monitored and discussed. Advisors serve as the student and parents’ contact and counselor. Monthly chapel services highlight the character virtue of the month and act as springboards for advisory discussions.
