Upper School (9-12)

us-home.jpg

The Upper School provides its students a strong academic preparation, solid physical development, imaginative artistic exploration and a sound ethical foundation.

A demanding college preparatory curriculum instills self-discipline and guides the development of academic proficiency, analytical skills, and creative thinking- all vital components to post-secondary success.  Small classes provide students the opportunity for meaningful class participation and individualized student-teacher interaction, as well as tutorial help when needed.

Numerous honors and Advanced Placement courses challenge the most motivated students, and elective offerings are plentiful and interesting.  A tradition of above -average performance on Advanced Placement exams and SAT and ACT tests reflects the high academic expectations of St. Johns students and their teachers.  Complementing success in the classroom are championship athletics and outstanding fine arts programs.

Caring faculty advisors provide group and one-to-one guidance regarding academic, social, or personal concerns. Monthly chapel services highlight the school’s commitment to character education and spiritual development.  Extensive community service outreach programs and numerous extra-curricular opportunities encourage student involvement in the local and world-wide community.  Beginning in grade nine, a college placement program offers advice to ensure each family’s choice of the most appropriate post- secondary experience for St. Johns graduates.

Guided by professionals whose teaching mission is to develop both the intellect and the character of their students, Upper School students at St. Johns benefit from the school’s nurturing environment and its programs which all focus on fulfilling the school’s mission “to provide a superior college preparatory program with a diverse curriculum that stresses academic accomplishment, artistic expression, and athletic participation in a supportive family atmosphere that fosters self-reliance and ethical responsibility.”
