St. Johns Country Day School

The Best Investment

The best investment money can buy isn’t about money, especially when it comes to choosing the best independent elementary school, middle school or high school for your child. It’s about the right environment for children to learn and discover themselves. At our Orange Park, Florida independent school, it’s about our good people and great education, which open doors for students and instill the character and confidence to walk through them. An investment in a St. Johns student is an exceptional value, and it is rewarded with interest and appreciation.

Based on this belief St. Johns remains firmly dedicated to helping families afford this educational choice. In addition to offering tuition assistance to families based on demonstrated need, St. Johns also offers a merit scholarship program and multiple payment options to accommodate diverse family needs. We truly believe that each dedicated and motivated student deserves a chance to attend of the top independent schools in the Jacksonville area. Every graduate of St. John’s Country Day School has been admitted to college since our founding in 1953 making us one of the top college-preparatory schools in the Jacksonville area. Financial Aid

St. Johns Financial Aid

St. Johns is committed to admitting qualified students regardless of a family’s ability to pay the full cost of the education. Financial aid may be available for students based on a family’s demonstrated need. It is important to note that application for financial aid in no way affects admission decisions. Our foremost priority is matching a student with our school to ensure that a student will benefit from the challenging college preparatory experience.

When a family applies to St. Johns, we work with the family to help make the school affordable. Over 25% of the students are on some kind of financial aid.

St. Johns uses School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) to help us process financial aid applications. SSS provides a need-based financial aid analysis system for many independent schools and private colleges, and St. Johns' Financial Aid Committee uses this information as the basis for financial aid awards. All information submitted is held in the strictest confidence.

  • Parents applying for financial aid must submit an SSS application and specify that the evaluation is to be forwarded to St. Johns Country Day School (School Code 6544). Financial aid applications must be submitted online. Please also send a photocopy of your signed, final 2016 Federal Income Tax filing, including all schedules as filed with the IRS, plus copies of all applicable Wage and Tax Statements (W-2 forms), to the St. Johns Business Office by May 31, 2017. Do not send tax information to SSS as it will likely be lost and will only delay your application.
  • If you are separated, divorced, or never married, it is your responsibility to ensure that your child’s non-custodial parent completes a separate Parent’s Financial Statement. This form should be completed and mailed to the St. Johns Business Office no later than May 31, 2017. Please contact the Business Office and request that the form be mailed to the address you supply. Additionally, the non-custodial parent is required to submit IRS Form 1040 and W-2 for self (and spouse, if married) as indicated above.

Eligible families whose applications for financial aid are filed after the deadlines or whose applications are incomplete by the deadlines may find the amount of financial aid extremely limited or depleted. If you have any questions about the school’s financial aid program, please contact the Admissions Office. Applications for the 2017-2018 school year will not be accepted after May 31, 2017.

Merit Scholarship

Merit Scholarship Program

The St. Johns Country Day School Merit Scholarship Program is a selective, merit-based opportunity designed to attract and recognize students who demonstrate both outstanding academic promise and a desire to make a significant contribution to the life of St. Johns Country Day School.

There is a drive to thrive that is palpable at St. Johns. Our students – your children – are motivated to meet the high expectations of our superior college prep curriculum. This drive and determination is matched by their character, which is cultivated in our inclusive and tight-knit community of faculty, staff, and fellow students, who know and respect one another. By implementing this merit scholarship program we aim to attract and retain more students who fit this description which, in turn, will enhance our already strong academic environment.

Eligibility for a Merit Scholarship

To earn a merit scholarship, a student must:

  • be entering Grade 7 or Grade 9
  • complete the St. Johns admissions process, or be a re-enrolled St. Johns student
  • complete the St. Johns Merit Scholarship application, including an essay
  • take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) and earn a combined stanine score of 28 or higher (to learn more about the ISEE, please visit ISEEtest.org.)
  • maintain a weighted Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher

Merit Scholarship Financial Benefits

The merit scholarship will cover 50% of tuition for one academic year and is renewed for only one additional year for a student earning the merit scholarship in Grade 7, and is renewed annually through graduation for a student earning the scholarship in Grade 9, as long as the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements for the scholarship. Therefore, a student earning a merit scholarship in Grade 7 will need to reapply for the scholarship in Grade 9. This scholarship does not cover any additional required fees or expenses including, but not limited to: application fee, building fees, tuition insurance (TRP), digital textbook fee, and school uniforms costs. A detailed description of the program rules and regulations including eligibility, application process, and renewal policy can be obtained from the Office of Admissions, the school website, or the Merit Scholarship Program application.

Deadline

In order to be considered for this scholarship an applicant must complete all the steps outlined under Eligibility for a Merit Scholarship on the previous page and submit all required materials to the Office of Admissions no later than February 27, 2017.

Selection Process

All completed applications will be reviewed by the Merit Scholarship Selection Committee at St. Johns Country Day School. The number of students who will receive a merit scholarship will be limited to no more than four students entering Grade 7 and four students entering Grade 9. If more than four students meet the criteria for either Grade 7 or Grade 9, St. Johns will award the merit scholarships to the four students in each grade earning the highest combined stanine scores on the ISEE.

Notification

Recipients of the scholarships will be notified by March 13, 2017.
