Overview

One of the best ways to determine the strength of any athletic program is to gauge the level of participation.  Students are encouraged to be involved during all three athletic seasons, and some athletes contribute to two sports during the same season.

St. Johns has varsity, junior varsity and middle school level teams.  At the lower levels development, fundamentals, sportsmanship, and discipline are emphasized and each team member has an opportunity to play.  At the varsity level the intensity and competitiveness increase and the expectations are higher.  It is a privilege to be a varsity athlete at St. Johns and with that privilege come responsibilities, such as commitment, time management, and cooperation with teammates and coaches.

At St. Johns, we consider our student-athletes ambassadors for our school and for our values. Therefore, we expect our players (as well as our fans) to demonstrate respect for their teammates, their coaches, opposing players, and officials, and to display outstanding sportsmanship on and off the field.

Athletic Philosophy

Interscholastic athletics is an invaluable part of a well-rounded education. The practice and development of physical skills, the satisfaction that comes from execution and participation, and the subordination of the individual self to the greater good of the team are vital elements in preparing young people for the larger world. Further, athletics unites the student body and encourages school spirit.
