Destination Broadway!
Incredible performances! Congratulations to the students, faculty, and parent volunteers for a wonderful show. More than 340 students and faculty participated as singers, actors, musicians, and narrators. An additional 37 students manned the lighting and sound controls and served as stage crew, runners, and ushers. So many faculty, staff, and parents pitched in to make it all possible -- thank you to eveyone involved!

Carson Pickett Named Miss Soccer; Mike Pickett honored as Coach of Year
Congratulations to Carson Pickett who was named Florida Dairy Farmers Female Soccer Player of the Year “Miss Soccer” for the State of Florida. Congratulations also to Mike Pickett '83 who was honored as the 2012 Girls Soccer Coach of the Year by the Florida Dairy Farmers. The Picketts are the first father-daughter pair to win the annual awards.

STATE CHAMPIONS!!
They did it in style, dominating the field of play and defeating Palmer Trinity 7-1, to win the State Championship title. Carson Pickett capped her high school career with a terrific game, earning high praise from play-by-play announcers and the crowd. Megan Rogers scored three goals; Ellen Crist, Mallory Bane and Carson Pickett also scored for the Spartans. A solid defense, led by Lane Poquette, Kay Kay Harding, and Nikki Aiosa kept the Falcons to one goal late in the game.

Early Learning Center Ribbon-Cutting

Annual Fund -- Our Goal is 100% Participation
Dear St. Johns Parents, I am writing to you today as the Co-Chair of the Development Committee which assists with the school’s fundraising activities. When I was first asked to co-chair this committee, I was reluctant to say yes because I did not feel comfortable asking other parents for money. Then I thought about how much St. Johns means to my family and me – and I know our love for St. Johns is shared by so many of you. Doug and I, and our children, have been part of the St. Johns family for 16 years, and the school is very important to us.

Congratulations to Niko Stroh and the Relay Teams!
The swim team had an incredible day last Thursday at Regionals. Niko Stroh competed in two individual events and five different relay teams competed.

Spartan XC Teams Advance to Regionals
The girls and boys cross country teams advance to regionals and five runners earn All-District honors.
Katie Lyerly placed 8th and Savannah Wofford placed 9th to lead their St. Johns teammates to a Runner-Up finish at Thursday’s District 4, Class 1A Championships, held at Ronnie VanZant Park. Kelsey Stern (13th) and Julie Franzoni (15th) also earned All-District honors.
Troy Britts placed 14th for the boys’ Spartan squad, earning All-District honors with a PR on the notoriously slow Van Zant course. Britts sped to an 18:57 clocking. The team advanced to Regionals for the second straight year by placing fourth among all teams.
There are eleven teams in District 4, the largest district in Region I. Providence won first place in the girls’ race and Bishop Snyder was third, and will join St. Johns at the Region Championships on November 12 at Alligator Lake Park in Lake City. Bishop Snyder won the boys’ race, followed by Christ’s Church Academy, Trinity Christian, and St. Johns. -
Grandparents and Grandfriends!
The St. Johns family hosted more than 400 grandparents and grandfriends on campus. Our special guests enjoyed a musical presentation "Passport Around the World" in the Performing Arts Center and then moved to the Brown gymnasium for refreshments and a performance by the band. Students showed off their classrooms, conducted interviews, and showered their grandparents with hugs. Thanks to everyone who participated in this special day!

National Merit Scholarship Program Recognizes Seven St. Johns Students
Pilar Brito and Mary Geary have been named semifinalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship competition and Tory Finley, Richard Illes, Ali MacDonald, Erin Patterson, and William Stokes were named National Merit Commended Scholars. The Commended Scholars scored within the top five percent of all high school students in Florida who took the test last year. The semifinalists scored among the top one and a half percent and are invited to advance in the competition for National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2010.

French Teacher of the Year!
Congratulations to Mrs. Deanna Scheffer who was named Florida's French Teacher of the Year by the Florida Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of French. Mrs. Scheffer received this award at the Florida Foreign Language Association conference held in Cape Canaveral, FL on October 15, 2011.

Students Selected for MS All-County Honor Band
Ten Middle School students participated in the Clay County All County Middle School Honor Band auditions, working very hard to be accepted into the honor band: Jimmy Lyerly (oboe), Billy Dietrich (clarinet), Dino Varelas (alto sax), Auriel Haack (alto sax), Trent Hanson (alto sax), Ryan Wynn (Bari sax), Holden Wright (tuba), Zach Hazen (trumpet), Kyle Steel (trombone), Eric Wang (euphonium).

DUI Awareness Program
St. Johns Upper School students and faculty heard a powerful message about the dangers of drunk driving presented by Ms. Renee Napier who lost her daughter Meagan in a drunk driving accident in May 2002. Ms. Napier was joined on stage by Eric Smallridge, currently serving a DUI Manslaughter sentence for killing Meagan and her friend, Lisa Jo Dickson.

St. Johns Digs Pink!
Thank you all for your support in the "Dig Pink" volleyball matches tonight. The total raised at tonight's matches was $1,891.00. We will donate our earnings to the American Cancer Society under "Diva Girls" and their Breast Cancer Awareness walk on October 15.

Brito and Geary Recognized as NMS Semifinalists
Seniors Pilar Brito and Mary Geary have been named semifinalists in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship competition. These two semifinalists scored among the top one and a half percent of all high school students in Florida who took the test last year, and will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for about 8,200 National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2012.

First Day!
Mr. Ellison spent much of the first day getting to know St. Johns parents and students. Even though temperatures were a bit warm, Mr. Ellison enjoyed lunch on the quad with fifth grade students.

Girls Score at States
Erika Lyle set a new school record for the 400 meter dash Friday night at the State track championships. Erika placed third in the state with a time of 58.67 seconds. ("That's fast!" says Coach Jay Birmingham.)

Beautiful day for golf!
More than 90 golfers participated in the 5th annual Spartans Golf Tournament held on Friday, April 29, at Eagle Harbor Golf Club. It was a great day of golf, food, and fun to benefit the St. Johns athletic department.

Championship Regatta
The Spartans crew team joined more than 1,300 athletes from 40 high school and club teams at the state championships on Friday, April 29. Lynn Killea and Taylor Colgate were state runner-up in the women's pair. Mike Patterson finished fifth in the men's singles; Chris Mougey and Richard Illes were fifth in the men's pair. Congratulations to all the state qualifiers and to Coach Debbie Huling.

Spartan Ringers Perform
The Spartan Ringers participated in the Universal Studios Music Performance Festival and earned a Superior (the highest rating possible!). E.L. Kleinschmidt, president of the Festival, noted "It's always exciting to see how students interpret and infuse their own zeal into the pieces they perform" and applauded the accomplishments of the students and their instructor, Mrs. Brenda Scott.

Annie Bobbitt was recognized as the All-First Coast Girls Soccer Player of the Year by the Florida Times-Union. Carson Pickett and Sarah Voigt were also named to the All-First Coast First Team and Tyler Law was named to the All-First Coast Second Team. Congratulations to all the girls and to Coach Mike Pickett for another successful season!

Tami Culbert Receives MOCA's Excellence in Teaching Award
St. Johns' own Tamara Culbert, Fine Arts Department Head and art teacher, has been awarded the Museum of Contemporary Art’s 2011 Memphis Wood Excellence in Teaching Award. Mrs. Culbert, who has taught at St. Johns for the past 18 years, received the award at a ceremony held in her honor at the museum on Thursday, March 31.

With an incredible performance as Michael Jackson dancing to Beat It, senior Patrick Glenn earned the Mr. St. Johns crown in front of a capacity crowd in the Performing Arts Center on Saturday, February 26.

Three Are Regional Scholastic Art Winners
Senior Caroline Myers and eighth graders Nikki Aiosa and Jonathan Killea are Regional Gold Key winners in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Competition 2011. Caroline submitted a ceramic sculpture; Nikki and Jonathan each entered a tempera painting.

Four Athletes Sign Letters-of-Intent
A special assembly was held on National Signing Day, February 2 in the Performing Arts Center as four St. Johns varsity soccer players, Annie Bobbitt, Tyler Law, Kaili Torres, and Sarah Voigt, signed letters of intent to play soccer at the Division I college level.

Selfridge Signs with Daytona Beach State College
At a special assembly held in the Brown Gymnasium on February 7, senior Erin Selfridge signed a letter of intent to play golf at Daytona Beach State College. The Daytona Beach Falcons are the current women’s golf national champions in their division.

52nd Cum Laude Society Induction Held
On Friday, January 28, 2011, a special assembly was held in St. Johns Country Day School’s Performing Arts Center to honor 12 students selected for membership in the Cum Laude Society. Newly inducted members include seniors Nick Fields, Maddison Larson, Sarah Voigt, Elizabeth Greenhalgh, Katie Young, Chadd Myers, Alex Herndon, and Clara Robison, and juniors Mary Geary, Tory Finley, Sarah Hartley, and Ali MacDonald.

Volleyball "Digs Pink"
On Monday, October 4, all three St. Johns Spartans volleyball teams defeated Trinity Christian Academy in a "Dig Pink" match. Entrance fees and concession stand proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society in honor of Holli Kennedy and her "Diva Girls" team.

St. Johns Country Day School senior Rachel Brown has been named a 2009 High School Volleyball Academic All-American by PrepVolleyball.com.

From a field of 12 contestants, sophomore Franklin Ritch was crowned Mr. St. Johns Country Day School 2010 Saturday night, February 27 in the Performing Arts Center.

Merritt signs Letter of Intent
On February 16, St. Johns Country Day School senior Jimmy Merritt, the ’08-’09 FHSAA 2A State Player of the Year, signed a letter of intent to play soccer at the University of West Florida in Pensacola.

Moore signs Letter of Intent
St. Johns Country Day School senior Kara Moore signed a letter of intent on February 18 to play soccer at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida.
Kara started 125 of the 126 games she played for the Spartans and was a senior captain this past season. She is fourth in all-time assists with 85 and seventh in all-time goals scored with 58 in her career at St. Johns. -
Williams Signs Letter of Intent
Senior Jenna Williams, a setter/middle hitter for St. Johns volleyball, signed a letter of intent on national signing day, February 3, 2010, to play volleyball at The University of Mobile.
Jenna becomes the first St. Johns volleyball player to sign an athletic scholarship to play in college. She’s been a staple on the Spartans’ squad for the past three years.
