For the past two years the program was a part of the USA Bolles Sharks, using the swim complex at St. Johns Country Day School for practice.

Zubero was the Head Age Group Coach at Patriot Aquatics in Orlando from 1998 to 2002. He coached the team to the Florida Junior Olympic long course team title in 2000 and was named Florida Swimming Age Group Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2000, and ASCA Age Group Coach of the Year for Florida in 2001. He also coached the 2003 World Championship team for Malaysia and the 2007 Pan American Games for the Netherland Antilles. As the Head Age Group and Assistant Senior Coach at The Bolles School, his teams won the men’s and women’s state title all five years he worked with the high school program.

Zubero won Olympic gold in the 200 meter backstroke at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain, and is the former short course and long course world record holder for the 200 meter backstroke, and a former World Champion in the 200 and 100 backstroke.

“We are excited about the energy, enthusiasm, and experience Mr. Zubero brings to St. Johns and we anticipate a smooth transition from the Sharks to SPAC. We are grateful for our affiliation with the Bolles Sharks for the past two years, but are thrilled that SPAC will return to the St. Johns campus,” remarked St. Johns Headmaster Ed Ellison. SPAC will officially begin August 6.
