April Tischer will be rejoining the St. Johns faculty this August after a twelve-year hiatus. After teaching Grade 7 and 8 science from 2001-2005, Mrs. Tischer will be joining the faculty as a Middle School mathematics instructor.
Mrs. Tischer comes to St. Johns after several years of educational consulting, prior to which she served in an administrative position at Florida State College at Jacksonville. Mrs. Tischer is a graduate of the University of North Florida with bachelor's and master's degrees in science education and a certification in educational leadership. During her career, Mrs. Tischer has served on several state leadership committees and has written curricula for adult education health and science courses.
"Every student needs and deserves encouragement to help them realize their full potential" says Mrs. Tischer. "I love teaching and inspiring students to apply what they learn in class to solve "real-life problems.""
Mrs. Tischer has taught a variety of science classes as well as algebra I, pre-algebra, and 6th grade remedial mathematics. Mrs. Tischer frequently conducts professional development workshops for adult literacy organizations and has served as a board member of Clay County Literacy Coalition.
"We are very pleased to have April coming back to the St. Johns Middle School," says Head of Middle School Bill Rothe. "I look forward to welcoming her back and know she will be a tremendous asset to both the Middle School and the mathematics faculties."
Mrs. Tischer lives on Fleming Island with her husband, Rick, and three rescue cats. Their daughter Kira will graduate from the University of South Florida this spring. In her free time, Mrs. Tischer is a stained glass hobbyist and also enjoys reading and white water rafting.
