Fellowships

St. Johns Fellowships are exciting programs designed to help students explore opportunities in their chosen area of interest. A St. Johns Fellowship provides practical experience, learning, and networking. St. Johns Fellows work with a qualified Fellowship Advisor who will provide guidance, connections, and leadership.

Qualifications
Any Upper School student is invited to apply for a St. Johns Fellowship. Students must submit the Fellowship Application, Supplemental Subject Application, and receive a recommendation from the Fellowship Advisor.

Expectations
Expectations of these Fellowships include:

fulfillment of the St. Johns Graduation Requirements
successful completion of one or more courses in the subject area specified by the Fellowship Advisor
Fellowship Advisor approved practical experience
successful completion of at least one Fellowship Advisor approved outside elective course, online or in-person, pertinent to the field of interest
Fellowship Advisor approved service learning and shadow experience/career internship. Minimum of 50 hours. Both service learning and internships or shadow experiences must each be represented in the 50 hours.
presentation of a research-based Senior Symposium project focused on the chosen field of interest

Business

The Business Fellowship provides practical experience and networking in any of a variety of areas, including economics, accounting, finance, marketing, management, business law, among others.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any Upper School student is invited to apply for a St. Johns Fellowship. Students must submit the Fellowship Application, Supplemental Subject Application, and receive a recommendation from the Fellowship Advisor.

EXPECTATIONS

Refer to the expectations for all fellowships.

SERVICE & INTERN HOURS

Acceptable service hours may include an internship with a professional, business or government organization; or volunteer work for a nonprofit community service organization. Some examples include banks, law firms, financial advisors, among others.

Business fellows will participate in at least one (but preferably more than one) mentor-approved shadow experience or career internship related to their area of interest. These hours count toward the 50-hour total requirement.

REQUIRED COURSES - to be completed at St. Johns Country Day School

Finance, Accounting, Economics, AP Macroeconomics

ELECTIVE COURSES - to be completed through Global Online Academy

Complete 1 elective course pertinent to the field of interest. Acceptable courses include Business Problem Solving, Global Entrepreneurship, Branding and Marketing, Blockchain and Cryptocurrency, Investing, Microeconomics, and Personal Finance.

Computer Science

The Computer Science Fellowship provides practical experience and networking in a of a variety of areas, including programming, computer principles, student mentoring, the 3D design process, and the augmented reality (AR) experience, among others.

QUALIFICATIONS
Any Upper School student is invited to apply for a St. Johns Fellowship. Students must submit the Fellowship Application, Supplemental Subject Application, and receive a recommendation from the Fellowship Advisor. Previous technology experience is not required, only an interest in technology.

EXPECTATIONS
In addition to the overall expectations of Fellowships, the Computer Science Fellowships include:

Successful completion of one or more of the following courses Computer Science courses: AP Computer Science Principles, Computer Programming I & II, and AP Computer Science
Successful completion of Apple Teacher Certification Program
Assist in the Design & Innovation Lab
Assist with Lower & Middle School Technology Projects
Junior and Senior Fellows are eligible to be Tech Interns (a graded course/1 credit)

SERVICE & INTERN HOURS
Time spent as an Apple Leader & G-Suite Leader and Design & Innovation Lab assistant is considered a public service to the School, and thus counts toward this total.
Computer Science Fellows will participate in at least one mentor-approved shadow experience or career internship related to their area of interest. These hours count toward the 50-hour total requirement.

Health Science

The Health Science Fellowship provides practical experience and networking in any of a variety of areas, including medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physical therapy, healthcare, medical laboratory, and veterinary medicine, among others.

EXPECTATIONS
Refer to the expectations for all fellowships.

SERVICE & INTERN HOURS
Acceptable service hours may include an internship with a professional, business or government organization; or volunteer work for a nonprofit community service organization. Some examples include clinics or hospitals, nursing homes, animal shelters, veterinary clinics or hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, among others.
Health Science fellows will participate in at least one (but preferably more than one) mentor-approved shadow experience or career internship related to their area of interest. These hours count toward the 50-hour total requirement.

ELECTIVE COURSES
Elective courses pertinent to the field of interest can be completed through Global Online Academy. Acceptable courses include Bioethics, Global Health, Medical Problem Solving I, and Medical Problem Solving II.

Visual Arts

The Visual Art Fellowship provides practical experience and networking in any of a variety of areas, including portfolio development and submission, Photoshop editing, artist statement development, award and publication opportunities, art related volunteerism opportunities in galleries, museums or the school studios.

QUALIFICATIONS
The Visual Art Fellowship is open to any Upper School student that follows the Upper School Visual Art Curriculum. To be considered for a Fellowship, students must (a) fill out and turn in an application, and (b) submit their artwork for review by the Visual Art Fellowship Advisor at the conclusion of their Foundations of Art class.

CURRICULUM REQUIREMENTS
Visual Art Fellowship participants are expected to take Upper School Visual Arts classes, Over the four-year Upper School curriculum, students are expected to take Visual Arts classes, Honors Art History, and an approved elective class outside of the in-school curriculum. Successful completion of at least one mentor-approved elective course, online or in-person, is a way to augment the fulfilment of an AP Portfolio and/or Higher Education Portfolio Submission Requirement.

EXPECTATIONS
Refer to the expectations for all fellowships.

SERVICE & INTERN HOURS
Acceptable service hours must align with criteria for Florida Bright Futures. Namely, they may include, for example, an internship with a professional, business or not-for-profit organization; Time spent helping to maintain the student studios create school murals, helping with the summer arts camp programs, or with theater set design and painting is considered a public service to the School and counts toward this total.

Visual Art Fellows will participate in at least one (but preferably more) mentor-approved shadow experience or career internship related to their area of interest. This could be through a for-profit or not-for-profit organization.
