2003: Walter Van Wagenen '72

Walter “Wick” Van Wagenen attended St. Johns from first grade

through his graduation in 1972. He earned a BS in en

gineering from Duke University in 1976 and began work at Van Wagenen and Searcy, his late father’s firm before forming his own consulting engineering firm, Van Wagenen and Beavers, Inc. in 1982. Wick is married to another St. Johns graduate, Helen West Van Wagenen ’71. The Van Wagenens, who live in Orange Park, have three children: daughter Hilary Van Wagenen Henry ’98 (married to St. Johns grade James Henry ’00), daughter Haley ’03, and son Hunter.

Mr. VanWagenen was instrumental in planning and overseeing the construction of the Lower School classroom wing and the Learning Resource Center, projects in the first phase of the school’s first Capital Campaign. As a member of the Board of Trustees beginning in 1992, Wick has been deeply involved in the school’s long range planning. He served on the Building and Grounds Committee beginning in 1992 and chaired the committee for a number of years. Mr. Van Wagenen also served as the board president from 1995 to 1997.
