News and announcements from St. Johns Country Day School for the week of February 27, 2018.
St. Johns is proud of our athletics programs. One of our goals is to help students grow into confident, multifaceted young adults and our athletics program excels in that regard. Our sports program fosters motivation and participation and develops individuals' skills and fitness alongside group cohesion and success, producing some of Jacksonville area’s top athletes. We are delighted that many of our teams achieve winning seasons and championship glory, but also that nearly all of our students are a part of Middle School, junior varsity, and varsity teams—many in more than one sport.
At St. Johns, we don't leave our character-driven philosophy on the sidelines. Our student-athletes are our ambassadors, and they wear their integrity as they wear their uniforms, with Spartan pride. In fact, they are not just good sports; they're great sports... and great at sports. Our school may be small but our teams are mighty. Our girls' soccer team, for example has won many district, regional, and state championships in recent years.
At the same time, we believe that teams can be exceptional without being "exclusive." Our squads mirror the inclusiveness of our community. Being small has its advantages. Rather than cutting opportunities for all but the most experienced athletes, we make room for interested students to find a sport they can play, improve at, and enjoy. The result is tremendous camaraderie—on teams and among students, faculty, and staff, who turn out to root on the whole school's teams, a benefit we believe directly affects our ability to compete as one of the best in area athletics.
