St. Johns Country Day School

Application Process
Welcome to the beginning of an exciting process. Finding the right school is really about matching a student to the learning environment that will bring out his or her best—a long-term investment in the life of a child. At St. Johns, we believe that school should be a place where children not only learn subject matter and prepare for college, but also learn about themselves and their place in the world, and then prepare to take that place. SJCDS students master it all with style.

The admissions process typically includes the following steps:

1. Inquiry

Inquiries are always welcome. Please call us, send us an email or complete an inquiry form to learn more about our school.

2. Campus visit

Attend an Open House or contact the Admissions Office to schedule a personal tour. This initial visit includes a campus tour and an overview of our curriculum and programs.

3. Application and related materials

You can complete the online application and related materials or, if you prefer, contact our office for copies. Complete and submit the following to the Admissions Office: Application Parent questionnaire, Teacher recommendation, Student transcript or report cards showing at least two years’ academic progress, if applicable. Application fee: $50 for Pre-K3 to Grade 12. Please contact the Admissions Office if you have any questions or need additional information.

4. Evaluation

Children entering Pre-K3 must be three years old before September 1 and completely toilet trained. All Pre-K3 students will be tracked during the school year to ascertain their developmental readiness for Pre-K4.

Pre-K4, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 applicants meet individually by appointment with one of our teachers or administrators. We utilize the Gesell Developmental Assessment Test and a classroom visit to evaluate readiness for our program. The evaluation includes sections on reading comprehension, and verbal and math skills. The evaluation materials are prepared by St. Johns teachers to ensure the right match between an applicant and the school. Applicants for Grades 2-12 are required to take the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam). The ISEE is administered on the St. Johns campus for applicants in Grades 5-12.

Applicants for Grades 2-4 should contact the Admissions Office to schedule their ISEE test.

To register your child (Grades 5-12) for the ISEE or to learn more about the assessment, please visit www.iseetest.org

5. Student Visit and Interview

Applicants for Grades 6-12 are required to interview with a member of our administration and are encouraged to spend the day with us to become more familiar with a day-in-the life of a St. Johns student. Applicants will visit the classroom and tour the campus with a specially-selected student ambassador.
