St. Johns Welcomes New Varsity Girls Basketball Coach

St. Johns is pleased to welcome new Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Yolanda Bronston. "Coach Yo," as she is affectionately known, started playing basketball at age 10 and coached her first AAU team at age 18.

Coach Yo grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia, and played point guard for state championship runner-up Blacksburg High School. After high school, she played for Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT, under Coach Brenda Reilly. Coach Yo returned to Blacksburg after graduation and became the assistant coach for her alma mater. She then went on to Old Dominion University for her MBA and earned a full time coaching position with Norfolk State University's women's basketball team.

For the past 6 years, Coach Yo has coached boys basketball teams with the First Coast YMCA. She is also a head coach for Champions Basketball Club in Orange Park, FL and most recently served as the assistant coach for St. Johns' boys varsity team.

"I am really looking forward to coaching the girls," said Coach Yo. "My focus is on doing all that I can to help them become strong & confident young women, on and off the court!"

Coach Yo lives in Middleburg with her husband, Randy, and sons Zion and Kavon. Coach Yo is an huge fan of classic hip hop, and in her spare time she enjoys working out and watching her son play soccer.
