December Birthday Books
Does your student have a birthday in December? Honor them and their special day with a Birthday Book donation to the Heinrich Learning Resource Center. If your student has a birthday this month, check the Tuesday folders or your mailbox for more information, or reach out to Library Clerk Leslie Glenn. Thank you for helping our library grow with books students want to read!
White Oak Partnership
St. Johns is pleased to participate in a variety of robust collaborations and partnerships, which work to help our Spartans apply classroom lessons and expand their horizons. This year we are thrilled to be expanding our partnership with White Oak Conservation into the Lower School. Grade 3 has already met with the White Oak naturalists and will be traveling there onDecember 11, 2017. Grade 3 joins Grades 6, 9, and AP Biology in partnering with White Oak. All three divisions will be studying the giraffe this year.
Last year, Grade 6 enjoyed a robust partnership learning about the rhino and efforts to eliminate rhinoceros poaching. Click here to check out the amazing conservation videos they made! Their PSAs were released on White Oak's Facebook page on World Rhino Day on September 22, 2017, and went viral with nearly 3.5k views.
Florida Bright Futures Service Hours
It's time for seniors to begin turning in community service hours for Florida Bright Futures Scholarship consideration. Community service hours can be earned and turned in at any time prior to graduation, but turning them in early has distinct advantages, for example, seniors who qualify for an award after the first semester of their senior year can lock in their scholarships!
Information about the Florida Bright Futures award levels, qualifications, and benefits is available here. Please reach out to Mrs. Laird with any questions.
Save the Date: 2nd Quarter Conferences
The quarter is well underway and St. Johns students have already begun planning for Second Quarter conferences, scheduled for Wednesday, January 10, 2018. These will be "student led" conferences, where students from Kindergarten through Grade 11 take the lead in setting goals and then topics to discuss at parent conferences. You won't want to miss the opportunity to connect with your student's teacher or advisor and watching your student learn and grow into this new role. Save the date, and we'll see you in the new year!
Honor the Past. Invest in the Future.
The Annual Fund is the school's fundraising priority and to emphasize its importance, St. Johns has eliminated ancillary fundraising activities such as magazine, cookie dough, and wrapping paper sales. We ask all members of the St. Johns family to consider an investment in the children, the teachers, and the St. Johns experience with a gift to the Annual Fund. Every gift, large or small, is appreciated and has an immediate impact on St. Johns. Please make your tax-deductible gift or a pledge today – it's easy! Click on the button above to make your gift safely and securely. Pledges may be paid any time before June 1, 2018.
We hope you have a great week!
