Middle School Students Learn About Kindness and Cages

As part of the Foundations program, last week guest speaker Mr. Koree Hood spoke with students in Grades 6-8 about kindness and inclusivity. Mr. Hood showed photos of his new puppy and told the students how the puppy's demeanor changes when he is put in a cage. The group continued with an engaging discussion about how we can put our peers in "cages" when we make assumptions about each other without asking questions. Students agreed that they wanted to take the time to get to know one another without passing judgment or falling back on stereotypes.

Students were encouraged to reflect on the power of their voices and how to use this power for kindness. "I am proud of our students' engagement and participation with Koree," said Director of Guidance Ann Korahais. "Students and parents offered very positive feedback, and I believe we all walked away with a strong message of character."
