Good afternoon! Here are this week's news and announcements from St. Johns Country Day School:

Congratulations, Super Speller!

Hearty congratulations to Grade 5 student Erik Williams, who last week won the District Spelling Bee at Plantation Oaks Elementary School. Erik earned his slot in the District Bee after coming out on top in St. Johns' Grades 5-8 Spelling Bee last month and Tuesday night he faced competitors from schools around Clay County. After 3 hours and 59 rounds of words, Erik came away the winner. Congratulations, Erik!

Regional Soccer Tonight

Girls Varsity Soccer takes on Rocky Bayou at home tonight at 6:00 p.m. Come cheer on our Spartans in this regional tournament game!


PTL Meeting Tomorrow

Please join us for the monthly meeting of the Parent Teacher League (PTL), tomorrow morning (Wednesday) from 8:15 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. All parents of St. Johns students are members of the PTL, and all are welcome at these short monthly meetings. We look forward to seeing you there!


Girls Varsity Basketball Heads into District Tourney

Girls Varsity Basketball is hosting the District Tournament this week and the girls have their first game this Friday, February 9, in the Brown Gymnasium. Our Spartans take on St. Francis at 7:00 p.m., and it's sure to be a great game. You won't want to miss the action, so mark your calendar and we'll see you there!


College Admissions Visits

Coming up this month, St. Johns has a busy slate of visiting college admissions representatives from schools including Auburn, Colgate, University of the South, and Clemson. Upper School students may sign up to attend any of these meetings by filling in a blue permission slip and turning it in to the Office of College Counseling by Friday, February 16, 2018.


Jacksonville Prep School College Fair

This year's Jacksonville Prep School College Fair will take place on Thursday, February 22, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the University of North Florida's University Center, 1200 Alumni Drive, Jacksonville. Open to all Grade 9-11 students and their parents, you won't want to miss this opportunity to meet with admissions representatives from more than 100 colleges and universities from around the country and the world. Candy Grams Now on Sale

Don't forget to order candy grams for your favorite Spartan or Spartans! Download an order form here, fill it in, and return it to your student's homeroom teacher or Mrs. Velasco by Friday, February 9, 2018. Proceeds support Interact Club's service projects, including American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.


Explore England!

St. Johns Spartans interested in studying overseas will get the chance to meet representatives from three English universities at an information session and mini fair on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at St. Johns Country Day School. The program will increase awareness of the opportunities available overseas. The universities in attendance include Northumbria University, Newcastle University, Keele University, and Manchester University. The event is open to the public and takes place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Heinrich Learning Resource Center.


New St. Johns Athletic Club (SJAC) - Join Now!

St. Johns is pleased to introduce the St. Johns Athletic Club, a new parent group with a mission to bring the St. Johns family together to celebrate and support our student athletes, fostering school spirit at all levels throughout the school. Membership is free and open to all. Many of you already volunteer your time and effort to run score boards, help with practices, and much more. Not involved yet but want to help? Sign up for SJAC today! It's easy. Just fill in this short signup form and return it at your earliest convenience to Holli Kennedy.


2018-2019 Fellowship Opportunities Announced

Last Friday, students in Grades 8-11 attended an assembly where they learned about the St. Johns Fellowship opportunities that will be available to them next school year, who the sponsors will be for each focus area, and what's next for this exciting new initiative. February Birthday Books

Does your student have a birthday in February? Honor them and their special donation to the Heinrich Learning Resource Center. If your student has a birthday this month, check the Tuesday folders or your mailbox for more information, or reach out to Library Clerk Leslie Glenn.
