Happy New Year, and welcome back to school! Happy second semester! We hope everyone had a fabulous Winter Break and some good time off. Here are this week's news and announcements from St. Johns Country Day School: 

Track & Field Coach Named

St. Johns is pleased to announce the appointment of Charles McEwan as Track & Field Coach. Following on the retirement of Coach Jay Birmingham last month, Coach McEwan will start effective immediately with the St. Johns Athletics coaching team. Coach McEwan has served as Assistant Coach with Orange Park's 1st Coast Track Club since 2012, and brings with him to the position a passion for the sport and a desire to provide a constructive environment for the improvement and development of student athletes in order to help them fulfill their potential. Welcome, Coach McEwan! 


 January Character Foundations

This month in Character Foundations, Spartans from age 3 through Grade 12 will be learning about, practicing, and demonstrating self-control, which is defined as "choosing to do what you should do, not what you want to do." 


Chick-fil-A Order Forms

You can download order forms for Chick-fil-A Mondays in January on your division's My School App page, or, hard copy order forms are available in your student's homeroom. Forms will be due Thursday, January 10, 2019 for lunch delivery on Monday, January 14th. 


Second Quarter Report Cards

Report cards for Lower School students will be available for you at Student-Led Conferences, on Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Parents of Middle and Upper School students can download their student's report cards from My School App on Thursday, January 10, 2019. 


Upcoming Open Houses

Pro Kids Show Monday, January 14

St. Johns is thrilled to announce the return of the Pro Kids Show with Scott Humston. Scott has come to St. Johns for the past several years, delivering both a daytime show to the Lower School, and an entirely different, all new performance that evening for Family Night. This year he will also present a targeted program to our Middle and Upper School students.

Please plan to join us next Monday, January 14, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center for the Family Night performance! This hilarious program will combine jokes, laughter, magic, and music into a feel-good character developing program that's appropriate for all audiences. Admission is free and open to all, so do feel free to bring family, friends, and neighbors. We look forward to seeing you there!  


Student-Led Conference Day January 16

Spring parent conferences will be led by the students again this year in our second Student-Led Conference Day. Mark your calendar for Wednesday, January 16, 2019 and plan to join your student's homeroom teacher/advisor for a status update and discussion led by your student. Lower School parents, as always, please reach out to Ms. Evans to schedule your conference. Middle and Upper School parents, online scheduling is now available. Those links follow:

Community Education Seminar January 23

On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at 5:30 p.m., St. Johns will host a seminar in cooperation with St. Vincent's Healthcare. Supporting our January Character Foundations trait of "self-control," Dr. Ellen A. Williams PhD, will present "Self-Control: How to Do What You Should Even When You Don’t Want To." In this helpful and informative presentation, Dr. Williams will unpack myths around self-control, solve some of the mystery about what conditions increase and decrease your willpower, and share simple skill sets that you can use to improve your ability to do what is in your best interest. This session will be chock-full of useful tools and information for parents, students, and community members, so please mark your calendar and plan to join us! 


Insider's Guide to College Admissions Testing 

On Monday, January 28, 2019, at 6:30 pm, St. Johns will host an informative discussion for parents of Upper School students, "Insider’s Guide to College Admissions Testing." Dr. Diane Berry from Revolution Prep will uncover some secrets to help with the college admissions process. Come learn what your student can do now that can help them get into the college of their dreams!Click here to register today
