Campus Update for Tuesday, August 13, 2019

Welcome back! St. Johns is thrilled to have all our students back on campus today and we look forward to another fantastic year. Here are this week's news and announcements from St. Johns Country Day School:

First Day of School

Happy First Day of School, Spartans! We hope everyone had a great day, and do be sure to like and follow us on FacebookInstagram, or Twitter for some photos of all the action on campus today. Not on social media? No problem! Visit sjcds.net to stay on top of all our School social media, no accounts, logins, or passwords required!

Traffic Flow Reminders

As we get started on the new school year, please be reminded of a few traffic flow guidelines that are in place during afternoon carpool. If you are picking up students from the Lower School carpool loop, please *do not* pull over on the left side of the road in front of the school entrance. Please stay to the right and proceed as directed by staff and Safety Patrol members. When exiting at the stop sign by the library, please note that turn is *left turn only* during carpool, in order to reduce congestion and maintain the safety of any Spartans crossing the street by the Lower School gate.

All traffic proceeding past the library corner must exit through the back gate onto Moody Avenue. No left turns are permitted when exiting the Performing Arts Center parking lot or North Field parking.

More details on carpool procedures, traffic patterns, and parking can be found in the New Family Handbook, located on the Division Topics pages of My School App (or available in hard copy from the Office of Admissions). Thank you for your help keeping our Spartans safe and helping traffic flow smoothly through campus!

New Family Handbook

This past spring, St. Johns debuted a New Family Handbook for all of our Spartans who are new to the School. While it's primarily targeted to new families, it might be useful to those not-so-new as well. If you'd like a copy, you can download it from your Division Topics page in My School App, or feel free to stop by the Office of Admissions to pick up a hard copy.

Spartan Scoop Debuts!

In case you missed it last week, be sure to check out the debut of The Spartan Scoop, the student news channel created by Journalism Fellows Julia Nichols and Sheila Hodges. They have posted their first video-- a welcome back and introduction to St. Johns, including a campus tour. Check it out, subscribe to the channel, and enjoy!

Chick-fil-A Lunches Return!

Returning for the 2019-2020 school year, St. Johns is pleased to again offer Chick-fil-A lunches on Mondays this year, starting next Monday, August 19, 2019. A short informational flier and monthly order forms are available in your division My School App pages, and homeroom teachers will have both on Orientation Day. Enjoy!

College Admission Rep Visits

Each year, scores of admissions representatives from colleges and universities across the country and around the world visit St. Johns to meet with our students, tell us all about their school, and answer questions. These visits are open to all Upper School students, and are posted on the Master Calendar at sjcds.net/calendar. (Or check out the calendar each week here in Campus Update.) In order to attend, students must get a permission slip from the College Counseling Office, have it signed by the teacher of any class that might be missed, and turn in the slip to College Counseling no later than the Friday before the visit. A list of upcoming visits follows. If you think you might be interested in a particular school, this is a fabulous way to learn more, or just to learn more about different colleges and universities in general.

Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising    Wed., August 21    10:45-11:30 a.m.
United States Naval Academy  Tues., August 27    1:45 - 2:30 p.m.
Hofstra University  Tues., August 27    2:30-3:15 p.m.
University of Florida  Wed, August 28   8:15-9:00 a.m.

Questions? Reach out to the College Counseling Office. The first visits start next week, so get those slips in, Upper School!
