Campus Update for Tuesday, June 2, 2020

Dear Spartan Families,

     At last, the awards ceremonies are done, students have been inducted into various honors societies, and report cards are now available. The semester has drawn to an end, and I want to take the opportunity to thank you for what has been an outstanding year-- yes, an usual one, but fantastic nonetheless. I hope you find time this summer to relax and rejuvenate.

     I wish you all the very best summer, and look forward to seeing you in August. Mark your calendars for Orientation Day on Friday, August 7, and the first day of classes for the 2020-2021 year, Tuesday, August 11, 2020. And, as always, please send any questions or concerns my way

Report Cards Available

Student report cards are now available in My School App. As a reminder, to access them, after login, click on your child's name in the upper left. Then, under Performance, select Report Cards. If you have any questions, please reach out to your Division Assistant. 


Summer Reading

Summer reading information for students in all divisions is now available in My School App, on each Division's Topics page. Please reach out to your Division Assistant with any questions.

Item Return & Pickup Days

Just a reminder that Item Return & Pickup Days are this week. Families can schedule an appointment to come to campus to drop off and/or pickup any items you may need to reclaim or return, such as: 

Drop Off Pick Up
School-owned iPads Yearbooks
Library books Medications
School-owned textbooks Locker/cubby contents
Athletics uniforms Lost & Found items
Band instruments Art portfolios/bags
Food pantry donations (see below) Awards, plaques, etc. from year-end recognitions

A few safety guidelines:

  • We strongly recommend that everyone attending wear a face mask.
  • We strongly recommend that anyone aged 65 or older and/or with a compromised immune system stay home and not attend this event. 
  • Please limit the number of people attending to necessary participants only.
  • You will be required to check in and out of campus.

Food Drive

St. Johns' chapter of the Interact Club, the Rotary-sponsored service club for high school students, is hosting a food drive this week. Collection bins are available at Item Return & Pickup Days (see above), and all donations will go to a pop-up drive through food pantry being hosted at Orange Park Medical Center this Saturday, June 6.

If you would like to support these efforts to provide critical nutrition to families in our area, please bring new, unopened donations of much-needed food items including:

  • Canned meats (tuna, chicken, salmon) and canned or dried beans
  • Canned vegetables and fruit
  • Brown rice, whole grain cereal, and whole wheat pasta
  • Soups, chilies, and stews
  • Dry and canned pastas, macaroni and cheese
  • Peanut butter and jelly

Summer Camp

St. Johns will offer a limited schedule of our exciting instructor-led specialty camps this summer for campers who will be entering Grades 1 through 9, depending on individual Camp age requirements. Camps will take place from June 29 through July 24, 2020. Parents who have already registered for regular day camp have the option to switch into a specialty camp or to receive a full refund. Unfortunately, due to health and safety concerns we are unable to offer regular day camp or extended care this summer. Please visit sjcds.net/summer for more information and to register. 


Driver's Education

In conjunction with Able Driving Center of Jacksonville, St. Johns will host a driver's education program this summer. The course will take place Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 2 and includes 30 hours of classroom time with your professional Able Driving Center instructor, plus 6 hours of driving time, also with the instructor, scheduled individually at your convenience. Registration is limited to 10 participants, and all students must be 15 years old. All classrooms will be sanitized and students will be socially distanced within the space. Students are asked to bring their own lunches and water bottles daily.

Please note that the first day, Monday, June 29, is a short day (8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) and includes the state's mandatory drug and alcohol program, after which students may apply for a learner's permit if they have not already. Thus Monday's class is optional for students who already have their permits. Please visit sjcds.net/summer for registration and more information.
