Campus Update for Tuesday, June 30, 2020

Dear Spartan Family,

What an exhilarating week it has been! Rod and I were thrilled on Thursday to be able to visit with the Seniors at their Senior Dinner, held at Timuquana Country Club in lieu of their Senior Prom. They all looked wonderful in their prom attire, and it seemed that they had a lovely evening spending good time together.

On Friday, I could not have been more pleased to be able to host the School's 65th commencement ceremony, also for the Class of 2020. We weren't sure we were going to be able to pull it off, but with a socially-distanced seating chart at the Thrasher-Horne, the addition of masks for everyone, and a livestream feed-- we did it! Hearty congratulations to the 47 members of the Class of 2020. I truly wish each and every one of you all the very best for the future. And don't forget to come back, keep in touch, and let us know what you are up to!

Finally, today brings to a close my two years of service as St. Johns' Acting Head of School, and it has truly been my honor and privilege to serve the School in this capacity. Tomorrow begins the term of the School's Eighth Head of School, Mrs. Valorie Baker, and I want to take this opportunity to welcome her to our School community.  While I am resuming my focus primarily on my work as Head of Upper School and moving back to my office there, it's just a short walk down the hall and I hope you'll stop in to say hello from time to time.

Spartan best,

 Happy Independence Day!

Since St. Johns first moved to this campus in 1957, we have been proud to host flag raising and morning announcements for the whole School each morning. It's a moment of community, of celebration, and of joy every day. We hope you will have plenty of opportunities to celebrate your own moments of community, celebration, and joy this weekend. Happy 4th of July!

St. Johns administrative offices will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observation of Independence Day.

Thank You!

Many, many thanks to everyone who donated, supported, and spread the word about last Thursday's 3rd Annual Day of Giving, #GreatDaySJ. Together, we far exceeded our goal of 108 gifts—one for every faculty, staff member, and coach at St. Johns—with 165 gifts and $40,276 raised. Your support makes an incredible difference for our students, our faculty, and the St. Johns experience. Thank you so much!

Summer Camp

St. Johns is now accepting registrations for our exciting instructor-led specialty camps this summer for campers who will be entering Grades 1 through 9 in the fall, depending on individual Camp age requirements. Camps will take place through July 24, 2020. Parents who have already registered for regular day camp have the option to switch into a specialty camp or to receive a full refund. Unfortunately, due to health and safety concerns we are unable to offer regular day camp or extended care this summer. Please visit sjcds.net/summer for more information and to register.
