I hope this message finds you well and that your summer has been going smoothly. I am writing to share a few updates with you as we prepare to start school in August, starting with our new Academic Delivery Overview brochure, which outlines various learning models the School is prepared to implement this year. At this time, we are planning to start school with every student here every day (see page 5 for more information). Additionally, we have completed the gathering of information from each committee of the Reopening Task Force and have compiled policies and guidelines that will direct our operations, cleaning procedures, and much more after we reopen. A detailed description of our "Every Student, Every Day" plan, including disinfecting, face masks, and social distancing, will be sent to you before the end of this week.
We are fortunate at St. Johns to have the space and campus facilities to implement social distancing, and to be able to alter our classrooms to comply with distancing standards where needed. Additionally, we are increasing the number of hand sanitizing stations and implementing new protocols for regular classroom electrostatic disinfection. Our entire community will also be using a new Magnus Health app which will help us track and monitor temperatures.
In the event that we must move to distance learning, we will keep Lower School on campus as long as possible, understanding that our Lower School Spartans are usually best-served with in-person learning.
As you can imagine, a lot of planning has gone into considering a multitude of issues related to preparing for a safe opening. These have been challenging and difficult times. As a community we will come together and work through the chaos that the coronavirus has created and I know we will have another successful School year together, as one Spartan community.
I am confident that these protocols will help us mitigate any risk to our School community and safely and effectively continue the Spartan education and experience that our School is known for.
If your child or someone in your household has an underlying medical condition that would prevent the student from returning to campus in August, I ask that you contact your Division Head prior to Monday, July 27. We have developed a virtual learning option through Google Meet that will allow these students to continue their coursework while remaining active students.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
|All the best,|
|Head of School|
