Good afternoon! Here are this week's news and announcements from St. Johns Country Day School:

Congratulations, NJHS Inductees!

On Thursday, the St. Johns chapter of the National Junior Honor Society inducted 30 new members into its ranks. Congratulations, students! Get the full list of all the inductees, read more, and view photos at sjcds.net/news!

Thank You, Golfers and Sponsors!

Hearty thanks to all the sponsors and the many alumni, parents of alumni, current parents, students, faculty, and many friends of St. Johns who came out to golf on Friday at the 15th Annual St. Johns Spartans Golf Tournament, which raised money to support St. Johns' Athletic Department and our student-athletes. We hope you all had as great a time as we did, and we'll see you again next year!

SJPA Meeting May 5

The last St. Johns Parent Association virtual meeting of the year is coming up, Wednesday, May 5, at 8:30 a.m., at which time the 2021-2022 leadership slate will be presented for approval. Please join us! Join the meeting by typing sjcds.net/coffee into your web browser or go to meet.google.com and enter the code "vkn-iwwm-tbt." We look forward to seeing you!

COVID-19 Reminders & Vaccines

Once they have been vaccinated, students, faculty, and staff no longer need to complete the daily Magnus health check. Once your child has been vaccinated, just reach out to School Nurse Michele Adams-Lentz at madamslentz@sjcds.net to have them removed from the Magnus system.

My School App Password Updates

St. Johns' student information management system, My School App, has conducted some security updates that have changed its password requirements. As a result, beginning today, the system will require you to update your password at least once a year. If you haven't updated your password in the past 365 days, you will be asked to update it the next time you log in. Additionally, My School App is implementing protocols that will not allow you to use a password that is the same as any of your previous six passwords. Please contact Director of Technology Anne Gorman at agorman@sjcds.net if you have any difficulties or questions.

ERB Testing

Today through Friday, April 30, students in Grades 1-8 will be taking online ERB tests from 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m daily. In order to help your child do their best, please help them get a good night's sleep each night before testing and to eat breakfast each morning. Also, remember that students must arrive on time each day for testing. Students who are tardy will be held in the office and will not be admitted to class until testing is complete.

Birthday Books!

Would you like to commemorate the people and events in your lives while also supporting the library? Honor your student’s birthday or celebrate your student’s senior year by making a donation of $25 or more to the Heinrich Learning Resource Center. Your donation will add a book to our collection and a bookplate will be placed inside the book to commemorate the occasion. We look forward to your participation! Visit the Heinrich Learning Resource Center on the Topics page of your division's My School App page for the order form

Driver's Ed Coming This Summer

Coming this summer, St. Johns will offer driver's education for all students interested in getting their permit, or who already hold a permit and want behind-the-wheel instruction. Students can choose the permit course, which begins Monday, June 7, and is available both in-person and in a virtual format and/or the behind-the-wheel course. Both permit courses include the mandatory Florida Drug and Alcohol Course (TLSAE) and the Florida permit test for your license.

The behind-the-wheel course includes 16 hour of classroom instruction, 6 hours of private, behind-the-wheel driving Instruction, and an hour of live test practice for driver's license behind-the-wheel test. At the completion of the course, each student will receive a Driver's Education Completion Certificate. Some insurance companies offer insurance discounts for driving education; parents should consult with their individual insurance companies to learn about discounts that may apply to them. Choose one, the other, or both courses to maximize your driving qualifications! Space is limited, so visit sjcds.net/summer today to register.

Yellowstone Wildlife Ecology

Last week, Dr. Román announced an exciting student summer Yellowstone Wildlife Ecology trip coming June 2022 for all Upper School students. In this amazing summer program, St. Johns students will partner with the National Park Service on ongoing research projects. You’ll spend the week in and around Yellowstone National Park, where park scientists will work with you on habitat restoration and bison grazing projects. You’ll observe the park’s famous Lamar Valley wolf packs and fantastic thermal features, and on your last day, you’ll take a celebratory rafting trip on the Yellowstone River! For more information, please download the program brochure here, and do check out the COVID protocols, cancellation policy, and more on the travel company's website, here. Space is limited, so if this amazing adventure sounds intriguing, please reach out to Dr. Román for more information.

Subscribe to St. Johns' Calendar

It's been a tough year to stay on top of what's going on, with events and dates changing so frequently due to COVID-19. Simplify your life by subscribing to the School's calendars on your phone. Then you'll have everything you need all in one place, and it'll automatically update for you if there are any changes. To subscribe, just visit sjcds.net/calendar and select the gray RSS button above the monthly view. Then, for each calendar you want, just hover over the green iCal button to select the format you need and install. It's that easy! Not sure which one to pick? We recommend the "Master" calendar, to stay on top of everything that's happening.

April: Peace

This month, Spartans of all ages are learning about and putting into action peace, which is defined as proving you care more about each other than winning an argument. You can learn more about peace and get resources to support the lessons at home at sjcds.net/news
