Campus Update for Tuesday, May 18

Campus Update for Tuesday, May 18

Good afternoon! Here are this week's news and announcements from St. Johns Country Day School:

Bravo, Musicians!

The Spring Band & Bells and Choral Concerts took place last week Tuesday and Thursday (respectively) and were a huge success. Audience members were treated to a wide variety of music (including classical, Star Wars, Elvis, and Motown), and both evenings comprised Senior Recognition for members of the Class of 2021. The choral concert was particularly meaningful as many St. Johns Singers alumni turned out to honor Mrs. Scott and bid her a joyous retirement. Thank you, musicians, and congratulations, seniors! You can check out photos from the Bands & Bells concert right here and from the Spring Choral Concert here.

Congratulations, Dance & Drama Students!

The spring performances of Dance and Middle School Drama took place last week and were a great success. The audience first enjoyed a video presentation by Senior Julia Nichols about perceptions, both of oneself and of others, followed by the tap number, "Tea for Two," performed by Upper School Dance students. The Middle School Drama production of Don Zolidis' "Stage Parents" followed, and the presentation was capped off by a stunning number from "A Chorus Line." Bravo, students!

Day of Giving a GREAT Success!

Hearty thanks to everyone who donated, supported, and spread the word about our 4th annual Day of Giving, #GreatDaySJ. We set out to reach 168 gifts—one for every day our School doors have been open this year when so many others have remained closed. In honor of St. Johns and of the resilience of our faculty, students, families, alumni, and entire Spartan community this year, our community came together and exceeded our greatest expectations. Together, we reached 235 gifts, raising $42,606! Thank you to everyone who believed in us and made a contribution to St. Johns. Your support makes an incredible difference for our students, our faculty, and the St. Johns experience.

Last Day of School!

There are two last days of School this year, depending on which grade your Spartan is in. Students in Grades 8-12 are done at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 20 (unless you have later obligations, of course). Unless otherwise specified, the rest of the grades will be dismissed at noon on Friday, May 21. If you have any questions, please reach out to your Division Assistant or your child's teacher. We hope you have a great summer! (Photo by Mary Beth Garrison '22)

Report Card Schedule

The end of the year is nearly upon us, and with that, second semester report cards. Report cards for all divisions will be available in My School App on Friday, May 28. To view your student's report card, log in to the parent portal in My School App and then, at the top-left, select your student. Under Performance, select "Report Cards."

Graduation 2021

The commencement ceremony for the Class of 2021 will take place on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Thrasher-Horne Center. While live attendance is limited to graduates' reserved seating, you can view this year's ceremony via livestream at sjcds.net/live. We look forward to "seeing" you there!

COVID-19 Reminders & Vaccines

Once they have been vaccinated, students, faculty, and staff no longer need to complete the daily Magnus health check. Once your child has been vaccinated, just reach out to School Nurse Michele Adams-Lentz at madamslentz@sjcds.net to have them removed from the Magnus system.

Subscribe to St. Johns' Calendar

It's been a tough year to stay on top of what's going on, with events and dates changing so frequently due to COVID-19. Simplify your life by subscribing to the School's calendars on your phone. Then you'll have everything you need all in one place, and it'll automatically update for you if there are any changes. To subscribe, just visit sjcds.net/calendar and select the gray RSS button above the monthly view. Then, for each calendar you want, just hover over the green iCal button to select the format you need and install. It's that easy! Not sure which one to pick? We recommend the "Master" calendar, to stay on top of everything that's happening.

This Month in Character Foundations

This month, Spartans of all ages are learning about and putting into action commitment, which is defined as making a plan and putting it into practice. You can learn more about commitment and get resources to support the lessons at home at sjcds.net/news
