Campus Update for Tuesday, July 6

Campus Update for Tuesday, July 6

Good afternoon! We hope you had a great weekend and a wonderful 4th of July. As we move through July you'll see more and more things here that pertain to the start of the new year, e.g., please note the updated Student Handbook and bell schedules referenced below. As always, please reach out to your Division Assistant or Division Head if you have any questions.

Football Parent Meeting

Don't forget, if Middle or Upper School student is planning to play football this fall, there is an essential parent meeting on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. in the Pace Lecture Hall. It's important that a parent attend for each player as we'll be planning the season and going over mandatory forms, physicals, conditioning, and other important details. Questions? Please reach out to Director of Athletics Traci Livingston

Boys Basketball Meet & Greet

Do you have a son in Grades 6-12 who is interested in playing basketball this year? Join us for a Meet & Greet with incoming Varsity Boys Basketball Coach Ian Gibson on Thursday, July 15, at 7pm in St. Johns' Pace Lecture Hall. Meet Coach Gibso, hear his vision for our boys team, and, of course, connect with other basketball parents as well. We look forward to seeing you there!

Middle School Math Academy Next Week

Does your rising Middle School student need a math refresher before school starts next month? Or do you just want to make sure that they're set for a great start, mathematically, to the new year's classes? If so, the Middle School Math Academy is for you!  Sign up your Middle School student to join their "algebros" and Math Department Chair Mrs. Denise Fountain for a fun-filled week of math and, of course, math puns. Sign up today at sjcds.net/SUMmer, and we'll see you there!

Student Handbook & Bell Schedules

The 2021-2022 Student Handbook is now posted on each division's My School App Topics page. While changes from last year to this fall have been minimal, please take a few moments to review the updated handbook, particularly the dress code for your student(s). The student handbook also includes the Athletics Handbook as an addendum. If your student will be participating in athletics this coming year, please take time to review the Athletics Handbook as well. The 2021-2022 Bell Schedules, which have not changed from last year, are also now available on My School App

Buy a Brick—Leave a Lasting Message

Show your support for St. Johns and leave your lasting message by purchasing a brick to be paved into the new pathway across the quad. The pathway is part of the deck and quad renovation taking place this summer thanks to the generosity of so many at the 2021 Gala & Auction: A Night in Old Havana. Support St. Johns and buy your brick(s) today!

Summer Reading

We've all heard that reading over the summer helps students retain knowledge and skills they gained over the previous year—not to mention, it's just plain fun! Summer reading lists for students in all three divisions are now available on their respective My School App Topics pages. To get there, after you log in to My School App, click on Groups to select your student's division. Then choose "Topics" and scroll down to Summer Reading. And, enjoy!

Summer Math

Practicing math over the summer helps keep skills sharp and prepares students for the upcoming school year. Math Department Chair Denise Fountain has reached out to students and parents from Grade 3 through Algebra 1 with their summer math assignments. Students entering geometry, algebra 2, precalculus, or calculus can find their summer math work on the Upper School My School App Topics page. There is no assigned summer math for students below rising Grade 3. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Fountain

Summer Camps Are Underway!

A number of great summer camps are starting up next week, including Cheerleading Camp, Football Camp, Technology Camp, and more.  Not to mention, of course, our regular day camp, which is available with wraparound care and extended day all summer long from 7:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m.  No need to be a St. Johns student to attend, so grab a friend, and we'll see you at the pool! Sign up today at sjcds.net/summer!

Supply Lists

Supply lists for Lower and Middle School are now available on each division's Topics page in My School App. Except for art courses, Upper School students do not have predetermined supply lists and are asked to come to the first days of classes with paper, pens, earbuds, etc. Upper School students will be notified by the instructor of each class whether any additional supplies will be required. Parents of Middle and Upper School students are encouraged to also check out their division's Technology Requirements, which are also available in My School App. Please reach out to your homeroom teacher (for Lower School) or Division Assistant with any questions. Middle and Upper School art students, you can get your art kits here
