The boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Bronco Classic at Middleburg High School over the weekend. The course was sloppy and very wet just like last week. Both teams ran in packs to help lower overall team pack times and push their teammates to better times overall and both teams executed that plan of attack perfectly.
For the top 5 Girls Varsity runners their pack time from the Bale-n-Trails race the week before was 3 minutes and 7 seconds. By pack running they lowered their pack time to 30 seconds and all 5 girls were in and under 27 minutes for the 3.1 mile race. First to the line were Rebecca Stratton '25 and Essie Melicharek '27 (at right) who crossed the line together followed closely by Evelyn Hanson '22 and Ayla Frisbee '27, who ran a season best time of 26:56. Rounding out our top 5 for the girls was Sarah Robinson '24 just 2 seconds behind the previous duo.
The Girls JV race was hot and mucky and we had only one runner—Hana Hutsel—competing. She did a fabulous job considering the heat and condition of the course after all the other races. Great job Hana!
For the top 5 Boys Varsity runners their pack time from the Bale-n-Trails race the week before was 5 minutes and 27 seconds. By pack running they lowered their pack time to 2 minutes and 27 seconds and had all 5 boys in and under 23 minutes for the 3.1 mile race. First to the line was Walker Cowherd '22 (20:19 in his first race back) and Graham Myers who crossed the line together followed closely by Adan Hererra '22 and Wyatt Hollingsworth '26, who ran to a season best time of 22:46 and rounding out the Spartans' top 5 was Richard Nichols '24.
The JV Boys also ran a great race and came away with some great times. First to the line was Taylor Thigpen '24 with a new PR of 24:58. He was followed to the line by Javier Coll-Roman '23 (at right) who also ran a personal record (PR) of 26:14 dropping an astounding 1 minute and 30 seconds of his previous PR. Next in was Sergio Lopez-Diaz '26 followed closely by Westin Cowherd '25 and rounding out the top 5 was Arlo Kistner '27, who helped pace his fellow teammates.
Congratulations to everyone on another great race. Our next contest will be the Embry Riddle Classic on 9/25.
