Good afternoon! Here are this week's news and announcements from St. Johns Country Day School.
In the News
Over the past week, St. Johns has published news about Tuesday's swim team victory over Middleburg High School and Saturday's Embry-Riddle Classic cross country races. Check out these stories and more at sjcds.net/news!
Coffee Talk Tomorrow
Please join us tomorrow morning in the Pace Lecture Hall for the Parent Association's Coffee Talk—a time to chat with and ask any questions you may have of School leadership. This week we're chatting about Upper School with Head of Middle and Upper Schools Jackie Lentini and Upper School Dean Mike Hilliard. Join us at 8:15 a.m. in the Pace Lecture Hall or virtually by typing sjcds.net/sjpa into your web browser or go to meet.google.com and enter the code "qcr-hbys-pmt." We look forward to seeing you!
Upcoming College Rep Visits
Each year, St. Johns' College Counseling Office works to bring a variety of college admissions representatives to campus to talk with our students, tell us about their college or university, and answer student questions. Visits are underway for the 2021-2022 school year and are posted on the School's calendar (scroll down for how to subscribe). All Upper School students are welcome to attend and need only register for each visit in their SCOIR account. See the College Counseling Office with any questions. Upcoming visits include:
|September 29||Georgia Southern University|
|September 30||Trinity College Dublin|
|The American University of Paris|
|October 1||Jacksonville University|
Schedule is subject to change. Upper School students should check their SCOIR accounts for the most up-to-date listing.
Panera Spirit Night Fundraiser
Grab dinner out while supporting a good cause—St. Johns' Interact Club! All you have to do is dine at the Fleming Island Panera (1510 County Road 220, Fleming Island) and show this flier on your phone when you check out and 20% of the proceeds from your order will go to support St. Johns' Interact Club's fundraiser for Haiti relief. You can also order online at panerabread.com and enter code PRFUND at checkout. You'll get a great snack or meal and you'll be supporting Interact Club and Haiti relief at the same time. Thank you for your support, and we'll see you there!
Interact Variety Show—Sign Up Now!
Upper School students, do you love to sing, act, play an instrument, or do magic tricks? Have a hidden talent you're ready to share with the School? Sign up today and be a part of the Interact Club Variety Show to benefit Rise Against Hunger. See Mrs. Velasco or show co-chairs Kennedy Brown or Emma Schultz to sign up. Don't have an act to share, but want to come out, support a good cause, and have a great time? Mark your calendar for the show, coming Saturday, October 16, at 7:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. It's family friendly and all are welcome. The theme is Halloween, so pull out your costumes and we'll see you there!
All-School Conference Day October 19
All-School Conference Day is coming up on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. Parents are invited to choose whether they prefer to attend virtually or in person. Lower School parents, be on the lookout for an email from your child's teacher later this week. Middle and Upper School parents, please click here to schedule yours today, and just make a note on the form if you prefer to attend virtually. Teachers will then send you a meeting link for the conference time. We look forward to seeing you then!
New Date for Spartan Fest: Friday, October 22
The new all-school Spartan Fest has been rescheduled for Friday, October 22, 2021, from 4-7 p.m. on the softball field. We hope you can join us for carnival games, food trucks, and more for the entire family. Afterwards, plan to come cheer on our Spartans at the Homecoming Football Game at 7:00 p.m.! Spartan Fest will take the place of the individual division socials (i.e., Lower School Fall Festival, Middle School Fall Festival, and Upper School Tailgate). We're looking forward to good times, laughter, community, and school spirit! We can't wait to see you there!
Character Foundations: Initiative
This month in St. Johns' innovative character education program, Character Foundations, students in all divisions will be learning about and putting into practice initiative, which is defined as seeing what needs to be done and doing it. Learn more about initiative and how you can help support St. Johns' lessons at home at sjcds.net/news!
