Good afternoon! Here are this week's news and announcements from St. Johns Country Day School:
St. Johns Celebrates Legacy & Lifer Students
Last Thursday, St. Johns was honored to celebrate our alumni legacy (children of alumni) and "Lifer" (who have been here since Kindergarten or longer) students with our Legacy & Lifer Breakfast! Nearly 70 students, alumni, and Lifer parents gathered together for good food and great company, and we were glad to see them all! Thank you for your commitment to St. Johns!
Tennis Takes District Championship
Congratulations to Spartan Girls Tennis on taking the District Championship last week and to Boys Tennis on earning Runner Up! In Singles competition, District Champs include Stella Hyatt '23, Calli Berrang '26, Ben Payton '24, Lauryn Mateo '23, and Dru Detlefsen '22, and in doubles, Stella & Calli and Lauryn & Ashlyn Anderson '24 take District honors. Both boys and girls teams advance to Regionals, which take place today. Go Spartans!
Spartan Baseball NHSI Runner Up
Earlier this month, Spartan Baseball traveled to Cary, North Carolina to compete in the USA Baseball National High School Invitational. Only the second team from the First Coast ever to be invited, the Spartans tested their mettle against the best of the best—fifteen other teams from across the country, and fought their way through to the championship round. Then, battling it out against a very talented Marjory Stoneman Douglas (Parkland, FL), the Spartans came up a little short (5-3), coming out Tournament Runners Up. Stoneman had won their previous three tournament games 15-0, 12-1, and 11-0, so a very good showing for St. Johns, indeed! Congratulations, Coach Lucas and team!

ERB Testing Coming This Month
ERB Standardized Testing will take place April 26-29 for students in Grades 4-8. ERBs are used to measure the skills learned by students in that grade level. It is essential to understand that St. Johns uses these test results as a secondary gauge of a student's aptitude and to evaluate our overall curriculum. Learn more about the ERB and how St. Johns uses it right here.

Mark Your Calendar: May 4 Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast!

You, and others who do so much for St. Johns, are the volunteers who truly make a difference for the students, faculty, and staff of St. Johns Country Day School. Please allow us to thank you by joining us at the St. Johns Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast, Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 8:15 a.m., in the Lower School Library. Join us for good food and great friends as we tip our hats to you for all the hard work this year! Celebrate Your Senior—With Books!
Graduation is just around the corner, and the Heinrich Learning Resource Center encourages you to commemorate your senior and their time at St. Johns by donating a book in their name to the Heinrich Learning Resource Center! Honoring their graduation, or another event, with a donation to our collection is a fabulous way to commemorate the people and events in your lives while also supporting the library. Simply make a tax deductible donation of $25 or more to the Heinrich Learning Resource Center and fill out this Commemorative Book Form. Allow your senior to choose a title from our collection of new books or request a specific title just for them. A bookplate will be placed in each donated book to commemorate the occasion. Your child's graduation—and your donated book—live on in our library collection! As always, thank you for your support!
As a part of our continuing efforts to educate our Spartans for the colleges and workforce of tomorrow, last year St. Johns updated its technology protocols to require all Middle and Upper School students to bring to School each day a fully charged laptop. This change will be fully in effect for the 2022-2023 school year. You can get all the details on either the Middle or Upper School "Technology" page in My School App, including the laptop requirements and access to special St. Johns family pricing in our exclusive online Apple Store.

This month in Character Foundations, students in all divisions are learning about and putting into practice hope, which is defined as believing that something good can come out of something bad. Learn more about hope and how you can help support St. Johns' lessons at home at sjcds.net/news!
