Campus Update for Tuesday, May 3, 2022

Good afternoon! Can you believe it's May already? As we cruise into the last month of our school year, here are this week's news and announcements from St. Johns Country Day School:

Introducing... Miss St. Johns 2022!

Congratulations to Miss St. Johns 2022 Grace McNulty '25, who was the winner out of ten contestants who each left it all on the stage and put on a very entertaining show on Saturday night. Overall, the pageant raised nearly $2,000 for Rise Against Hunger. Hearty congratulations to Grace and to 1st Runner Up Shannon Hodges '23, 2nd Runner Up Jules Raimondi '24, Miss Congeniality Jane Garrison '25, and the People's Choice Winner, Jules Raimondi, with over $300 in her voting box. Congratulations to all the participants and to everyone who helped stage such a tremendous show!

Celebrating Our Teachers

We are super excited to celebrate our teacher's this week during National Teacher Appreciation Week. Throughout the week, we encourage parents, students, and others to join us and share their thanks with our Spartan faculty. Give them a high five, make them a special card, or just tell them "thanks" for all they do!

National Nurses Week

Speaking of appreciation, National Nurses Week is coming this Friday, May 6 through next week Thursday, May 12 and we invite you to join us in celebrating our own School Nurse, Michele Adams-Lentz '89, who takes such great care of us every day here at St. Johns. Thank you to all nurses out there, and thank you, Nurse Michele!

Lower School Clothing Drive

Lower School Student Council is sponsoring a spring clothing drive to benefit the Vietnam Veterans Association. The drive runs through Tuesday, May 17 and pre-loved, good-condition clothing of all types and sizes are needed. Please send your donation in to Reception or to your child's Lower School homeroom teacher. We truly appreciate your support!

Step Up to Serve

The St. Johns Parent Association (SJPA) invites all parents to apply for the 2022-2023 Executive Board. Serving in a leadership role with the SJPA is a great way to become more connected to the School community, meet other parents, enrich the St. Johns experience, and have some fun along the way. If you're interested, please fill out this SJPA nomination form. Elections will take place Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 8:15 a.m. in the Lower School Library following the Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast. All are invited, so please join us!

Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast Tomorrow

Have you volunteered in your child's classroom or at a school event this year? Chaperoned a field trip, decorated a classroom door or provided snacks? Have you worked in the library, sold concessions at a game, or helped with a bake sale? If so, then, thank you! You, and others who do so much for St. Johns, are the volunteers who truly make a difference for the students, faculty, and staff of St. Johns Country Day School. Please allow us to thank you by joining us tomorrow at the St. Johns Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast, at 8:15 a.m., in the Lower School Library. Join us for good food and great friends as we tip our hats to you for all the hard work this year! The SJPA Annual Meeting will follow the breakfast, at which time the 2022-2023 leadership slate will be presented for approval. Please join us!

Join Us for A Day at the Downs

Summer Camp Registration

Some camps have gone to waitlist, but registration is still open for most camps in our 32nd Summer of Fun. St. Johns offers wraparound camp (for half-day camps) and extended day from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. so we've got you covered this summer! Register today at sjcds.net/summer!

Celebrate Your Senior—With Books!

Graduation is just around the corner, and the Heinrich Learning Resource Center encourages you to commemorate your senior and their time at St. Johns by donating a book in their name to the Heinrich Learning Resource Center! Honoring their graduation, or another event, with a donation to our collection is a fabulous way to commemorate the people and events in your lives while also supporting the library. Simply make a tax deductible donation of $25 or more to the Heinrich Learning Resource Center and fill out this Commemorative Book Form. Allow your senior to choose a title from our collection of new books or request a specific title just for them. A bookplate will be placed in each donated book to commemorate the occasion. Your child's graduation—and your donated book—live on in our library collection! As always, thank you for your support!

2022-2023 Technology

As a part of our continuing efforts to educate our Spartans for the colleges and workforce of tomorrow, last year St. Johns updated its technology protocols to require all Middle and Upper School students to bring to School each day a fully charged laptop. This change will be fully in effect for the 2022-2023 school year. You can get all the details on either the Middle or Upper School "Technology" page in My School App, including the laptop requirements and access to special St. Johns family pricing in our exclusive online Apple Store

This month in Character Foundations, students in all divisions are learning about and putting into practice perseverance, which is defined as refusing to give up when life gets hard. Learn more about perseverance and how you can help support St. Johns' lessons at home at sjcds.net/news
