SJPA Coffee Talk
The St. Johns Parent Association (SJPA) invites you to our first Coffee Talk, "How to Raise Body Positive Kids," with Eating Disorder Advocate McCall Dempsey. McCall will share more about body image, eating disorders and how parents can protect children from the alarming amount of negative body image messages. Join us tomorrow from 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. in the Pace Lecture Hall or virtually with the access info emailed to you in this week's Campus Update. Supply Drive Ends Tomorrow
Interact Club is collecting school supplies for the Tools for Clay Schools program. Tools for Clay Schools collects, stores, and distributes school supplies and classroom materials to help alleviate this burden from low-income parents. The program offers teachers an opportunity to "shop" for classroom supplies and materials at no cost to them. If you have some extra supplies that you can donate, please bring them in for Tools for Clay Schools! There will be collection boxes near each division office. The following items are the most needed: pencils, colored pencils, crayons, scissors, erasers, glue, markers, college and wide ruled notebooks and paper, highlighters, black permanent markers, hand sanitizer, cleaning wipes, tissues, blue, black, and red ink pens, pencil pouches/boxes, graph paper, earbuds, and 2 prong folders with pockets. All donations are due no later than Wednesday, August 31.
Club Sparty After School Activities Open Now
Club Sparty (formerly known as Sparty Sports) after school activities are underway now, with programs in dance, baseball, and more for children starting at age 3. Visit sjcds.net/ClubSparty to learn more, or scroll down to the end of this message to view current activities.
College Visits
As the new year ramps up, St. Johns' students are starting to think more seriously about the future. To aid them in the search for the perfect next step, dozens of colleges and universities visit St. Johns each year to answer student questions and talk about their schools, their campuses, and their curricula. See the current schedule below. These sessions are open to all Upper School students; just sign up in your SCOIR account or stop by the College Counseling Office. Please note that the visit schedule changes frequently, so keep an eye on SCOIR for last minute adjustments or additions.
Spartan Spring Break Trip to Spain
Don't miss St. Johns' Spring Break trip to Spain, coming March 2023 and open to all Upper School students. No need to be a Spanish student. To enroll or get more information about the trip, go to passports.com/enroll and enter tour ID HVELASCO2023, or click here to check out a video of the sites you'll see. College Counseling Financial Aid Night
The College Counseling Office will host a College Financial Aid Night on Wednesday, September 28, at 6:00 p.m. in the Pace Lecture Hall (PLH). Open to all Middle and Upper School families, guest speaker Will Hunter of UNF will cover all aspects of financial aid including Bright Futures, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), scholarships, merit aid, need-based aid, and more. This session will be beneficial for any families who are thinking ahead to the college selection (and finance!) process. We look forward to seeing you there!
