Good afternoon! Here are this week's news and announcements from St. Johns Country Day School:

Middle School Student Recognition

At the end of each month, St. Johns' Middle School recognizes Students of the Month in Grades 6, 7 and 8. These students have modeled the School's mission of seeking solutions, creating collaboration, and accepting responsibility, and were nominated by the Middle School Faculty. The Middle School Students of the Month for September are, in Grade 6 -  Lucy Mitchell, in Grade 7 - Ethan Kent and Colt Hill, and in Grade 8 - Levi Avila. Congratulations, students!


Athlete of the Week: Richard Nichols '24

Congratulations to last week's Athlete of the Week, Richard Nichols '24! At last month's Bale 'n Trail race at Bartram Trail, Richard came in 26th out of 288 runners and set a new PR of 17:04. Way to go, Richard! 


Join Us for Fall Cabaret!

Please join us this Friday, October 6 for a vocal cabaret featuring the St. Johns Singers. Enjoy classic jazz standards including Fly Me To The MoonIt Had To Be You, and Orange Colored Sky. The 7:00 p.m. performance will be accompanied by St. Johns Vocal Director Cara D'Emanuele. Find your seat on stage with the singers in this intimate cabaret setting. Complimentary food and beverages will be available.


Spirit Store Closed Monday

Please note that the Spirit Store will be closed next Monday, October 9. It'll open back up again on Tuesday the 10th.


Join Us for Coffee Talk!

The St. Johns Parent Association (SJPA) invites you to get involved with the School! If you haven't already filled out the SJPA Volunteer Formclick here to do so. The SJPA will be sending out more information about October volunteer opportunities, so be on the lookout. We also invite you to join us for a Coffee Talk with Head of Middle School Ben Magidson on Wednesday, October 18, immediately following flag raising in the PLH. Hear from Mr. Magidson and ask any questions that may be on your mind. We look forward to seeing you!


Save the Date for Mr. St. Johns!

Be sure to mark your calendars and save the date for the annual Mr. St. Johns competition, coming on Saturday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m. to St. Johns' Performing Arts Center! The theme this year is Barbie, so brace yourself for tons of fun with lots of Kens, hosted by St. Johns' Interact Club. Tickets are $5 at the door and all proceeds go to American Cancer Society. Be sure to bring extra cash to vote for your favorite contestants, and we'll see you there! 


Yearbook Tribute Ads

Want to honor a student, club group, or special senior? Celebrate them with a Chalice yearbook tribute ad. The final deadline to reserve your space is October 25, 2023. See this information sheet for the answers to many frequently asked questions, and click here to reserve your tribute space today! Please remember that yearbook advisors/staff cannot edit finalized tribute ads, so be sure to carefully review your creation before submitting it.


College Admissions Visits

Check out the schedule of visiting college admissions representatives below for upcoming visits. Upper School students, seize these opportunities to learn more about these schools, check out the full schedule in SCOIR, and register there for visits with schools you're interested in. Please note, the schedule changes frequently, so keep an eye on SCOIR for last minute adjustments or additions, and stop by College Counseling with any questions. 


Spartan Fest Coming October 27

Plan to join us for Spartan Fest—a night of food and fun for the Spartan community—on HomecomingFriday, October 27, from 3:30-6:00 p.m. There will be crafts, face painting, games, food trucks, and more, so bring the whole family! Then, when Spartan Fest winds down, head on up to the soccer fields where there will be a soccer double-header, with the boys playing Ridgeview and the girls playing Bolles. Senior Recognition for both teams will take place, and at halftime we'll crown the Homecoming Queen and King. You won't want to miss it!

Speaking of Homecoming, don't miss out on the opportunity to buy a limited edition Homecoming t-shirt! We only ordered 125 of these, so order fast to get yours. Shirts are $15 each, come in adult sizes XS through XXL and are available for purchase by Venmo @SJCDS or at sjcds.net/give. Just note your name and shirt size. Students can pick up their shirts with Mrs. Berrang at Reception; Parents, we'll touch base to coordinate with you. Questions? 4-Day Bell Schedules

Just a reminder that for the next two weeks we'll be following our new 4-day Bell Schedules. There are two—one for weeks with a Monday off and one for weeks with a Friday off. These new 4-Day Bell Schedules help ensure that all classes have enough time to meet throughout the year, and prevents the same courses from missing class every time there's a short week.
