Good afternoon! Here are this week's news and announcements from St. Johns Country Day School:
Upper School Open House
Please join us at Upper School Open House, Wednesday, August 28, 6-7 p.m. We'll begin the evening gathered around the Roddey R. Fisher Quad, just like the students do every morning. From there, meet your child's teachers, see their classrooms, and learn more about the division. See you there!
Parent Association Meeting Sept. 3
Please join us for coffee at our first St. Johns Parent Association Meeting, Tuesday, September 3 at 8:30 a.m. in the Pace Lecture Hall. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend! If you are unable to attend in person, please join us virtually by selecting this link.
Middle School Parent Education Coffee
Middle School parents, join us next week Wednesday, September 4, for a Parent Coffee at 8:30 a.m. in the Pace Lecture Hall. We'll be talking about the challenges of social media, how parents can stay educated on the issues, and what to do about them.
Athlete of the Week
This week's Nichols & Pina St. Johns Athlete of the Week is Spartan Golf's Beckham Cummings '28! Last Monday, the Spartans defeated Orange Park and Ridgeview with a score of 163 to 182 and 202. Beckham was the medalist of the match with a two over par 38, leading the Spartans to victory! Congrats, Beckham!
Parent Night: Minding Your Mind - Just Talk About It!
Please join us for a parent education night, "Minding Your Mind - Just Talk About It!" Coming Wednesday, September 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the Pace Lecture Hall, Just Talk About It will discuss the signs and symptoms of the mental health issues most prevalent in adolescents through young adulthood. Featuring both clinician and young adult speakers, the discussion will help parents tell warning signs from typical teenage behavior. Please join us!
College Representative Visits
It's about that time again, when representatives from colleges and universities from across the country (and around the globe!) come to St. Johns to tell us about their schools, visit with our students, and get to know St. Johns. Upper School students are welcome at these visits and juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend. Students must be registered to attend, and be sure to keep an eye on SCOIR for the schedules, as they do change frequently. Direct any questions to your college counselor.
Welcome, Ms. Daskowisz!
St. Johns is proud to welcome Grade 1 teacher Maegan Daskowisz! Ms. Daskowisz comes to St. Johns from Clay County District Schools. You can read more about her right here.
Visitor Pre-Check
Have you already done Pre-Check? Just like when you travel, registering ahead of time as a Trusted Traveler gets you through TSA faster, St. Johns' new Visitor Pre-Check will help you cut down on the registration line any time you come to campus, whether it's Grandparents Day, or to see the Seniors matched with their Grade 1 buddies next month. Just stop by the Reception Desk any time, have your driving license scanned in at your convenience, and then the process for event check-in is a fast, simple stop, with no driving license required. Lower School parents may wish to stop by Reception in advance to get set up in advance of the Town Hall coming up in next weeks. Parents who are not registered in Pre-Check will need to check in with their driving license for each event.
Uniform Questions
We understand that recently Lands End has been out of stock on some uniform items and that families are having difficulty getting the uniforms they need for their Spartans. If this sounds like you, please reach out to Spirit Store Manager Heather Graham. We have some uniform attire in stock in the Spirit Store, and Mrs. Graham will be able to answer questions and help you find solutions.
Florida Tax Credit Scholarships
Many St. Johns families are saving money on tuition by putting their tax dollars at work. As of 2023, the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship (FTCS) program is available to all resident students who are eligible to enroll in Kindergarten through Grade 12 in a Florida public school. The next enrollment deadline has not yet been determined, however, awarded students are still eligible to receive 100% of their scholarship award for the 2024-25 school year as long as the student is "enrolled" by October 15, 2024. Cut your tuition bill and click here to get started today!
