This afternoon, St. Johns Country Day School celebrated academic excellence and leadership with a National Honor Society (NHS) Induction Ceremony, held at 2:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. The event welcomed new members into this prestigious organization, recognizing their commitment to scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome from Head of School Valorie Baker, followed by an introduction of current NHS members by NHS Sponsor Stacy Johnson.
Senior Shane Reaves shared the purpose and mission of the NHS, emphasizing the organization’s role in fostering community service and academic achievement. Then new inductees were officially welcomed by Mia Johnson '25.
A candlelighting ceremony followed, with readings on the four pillars of NHS presented by current Senior members:
- Scholarship: Gabi Oceguera
- Service: Josh Lewis
- Leadership: Jane Garrison
- Character: Charlie Morgan
The inductees stood to recite the NHS pledge, led by Charlie Morgan, affirming their dedication to the values of the National Honor Society.
Alumna Jessica Palombo Gustafson ’04 delivered an inspiring address, sharing her experiences in the field of journalism and offering advice to the new inductees.
"In news the whole point is to help people stay curious and keep learning every day.... Like our readers, I hope you won't ever stop learning... and like many [Jacksonville Today] readers, I hope you will find a way to give back to your community--not necessarily with your money but with your talents."
