Head of School Search Update
St. Johns Country Day School has appointed Dr. John Murray as the next Head of School. John will begin his tenure on July 1, 2026, following the departure of Valorie Baker.
Dr. Murray brings over fifteen years of experience leading independent schools. His most recent two schools were pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade with enrollments double that of St. Johns. He earned his bachelor's degree in Psychology and his master's degree in Sports Sciences from the University of Virginia, his master's degree in Private School Administration from Columbia University, and his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Auburn University. Dr. Murray has intentionally developed his leadership across all areas of school operations, earning a reputation for being kind, patient, and supportive of both academic leaders and faculty. He is energetic, present, and attentive to teachers and students across all grade levels, leading by example and building strong, collaborative teams. His references consistently affirmed his ability to strengthen academic programs, cultivate positive school culture, and support students in gaining admission to top-tier universities.
Dr. Murray wants to be a Spartan. He sees something special in this school and in our community, and he embodies the vision Dr. Heinrich set for St. Johns. Please join us in welcoming our newest Spartans: Dr. John Murray, his wife Krissy, and their dog Ozzie.
