Winterim

St. Johns' unique Winterim, including Upper School Winterim and Middle School Minterim, offers students the opportunity to spread their wings, give back to their communities, and prepare for the future. At the start of the Spring semester, Middle and Upper School students participate in targeted activities by grade:

  • Grade 6 completes both on- and off-campus community service, both independently and in conjunction with Grade 9 students.
  • Grades 7 and 8 take on-campus mini courses on topics they don't find in their everyday curriculum. From gardening to virtual reality and cooking to stage combat, students are encouraged to try something new while having fun and learning from faculty and valued members of the community.
  • Grade 9 completes both on- and off-campus community service both independently and in conjunction with Grade 6 students.
  • Grade 10 takes on-campus mini courses covering a variety of topics not found in their everyday curriculum. From Jane Austen to Basics of Mechanics, pickleball to nutrition, students try new things and learn skills they might not otherwise encounter.
  • Grade 11 students conduct career internships in their areas of interest and targeting potential career paths.
  • Grade 12 participates in a special program developed and led by the University of North Florida's Leadership Institute. Based on the program UNF delivers to its freshmen, the course is designed to help seniors prepare for college life and beyond.
